It’s the time of year again. It’s cold, and your lips are dry and chapped. You wake up in the morning with your lips feeling like a desert, and you wonder how you can carry on. Have no fear! Lip masks are here! Over the past couple of years, lip masks have become quite popular. I would say the hype started with BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask. It became widely touted on YouTube and bloggers from all over were smitten with it. Over the past year, Laneige released their version of the overnight lip mask in the Lip Sleeping Mask. It’s become quite popular in the beauty community. I even mentioned it saving my ass in my vlog from the World Juniors. If you ask the beauty community what product will help your dry, chapped lips, I’m sure most people will throw out one of these products as a suggestion. We’re going to break them down and see which one I prefer.
The BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask comes in a tube with a screw cap. The particular mask I have pictured here is a smaller version from a holiday set they sold at Sephora containing some other items, but the original size looks identical. The tube needs to be squeezed from the bottom like toothpaste, and you’ll need to curl the end as you go. This does make it a bit hard to get the product out as the consistency is a bit thicker. At the end of the day, when you think you’re near the end, you can always cut the bottom and scoop the rest out into a samples container.
LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask comes in a small pink pot, and it includes a cute spatula to scoop the product out. Because this is a pot, I find it easier to use. It’s also easy to use to the last drop as you don’t have to cut something open and transfer to another container. The spatula is a good addition because it keeps the product sanitary from your fingers.
Texture and Application
The texture of these two products is very different. On one hand, you have the Agave Lip Mask, which is thick and goopy. It really is like a mask for your lips. It coats your lips, and it does feel like you have agave on; this isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it has a nice, sweet taste. The Lip Sleeping Mask has a thinner consistency, and I find that a little goes a long way while still coating the lips in a mask. This one has a mild bubblegum flavor, but it’s not obnoxious. For those that don’t know, I don’t like bubblegum flavors or scents, so I’m biased.
Both lip masks suggest putting the product on before bed, and then wiping off the excess left over in the morning. Generally, there is very little left over in the morning as my lips absorb most product by then. With that said, I do find the BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask travels all over my face sometimes.
You are also more than welcome to apply either product during the day. During my time in Buffalo, I applied the Laneige mask almost every day before we left for our hockey games and it looked just like a lip gloss. The BITE Beauty mask is a bit thicker in texture, but it still looks like a lip gloss.
BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask vs. LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask Results
The morning after applying either one of these, I do notice a difference in my lips. I notice a more of a difference with the Laneige Sleeping Lip Mask than the BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask. While the BITE Beauty product delivers some impressive results, I find the Laneige product improves my moisture levels as well as my lip texture. I noticed sometimes after using the BITE Beauty mask that my lips would peel a bit in the morning, and I would need to scrub it off more. I do find both products adequately soothe my skin issues if I have an eczema breakout on my lips.
BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask retails for $30CAD for 15g of product. The LANEIGE Lip Sleeping Mask retails for $24CAD for 20g of product. Based on my preferences for the LANEIGE packaging and the results, I definitely prefer this formula over the BITE Beauty. It also saves me money, which is very important. I can see why people love the BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask though, and it is a great product with some great ingredients like agave and jojoba oil. I would tell anyone to pick up either product and see which one they prefer themselves.
Have you tried any other lip masks? Is either of these a favorite?
